Another School Year Ends

Another Day Along the Way
Wednesday, May 07, 2008

Another day,
Another school year ends. What has changed in the world? What have we all learned? How have we changed?

Another election campaign rages on. Who will win? Why? What are we doing to make a difference?

Another tournament is on the screen. As I watch the NBA finals, I wonder: What other desires did those athletes give up to work their way this far? What other athletes could have been there if they had given up on other things? Where does God want to take us and what should we give up so we can arrive there?

Another summer waits. What plans have we made? Which of those plans will change? What surprises await us? How will we respond to those surprises? What motivated us to make those plans? If Jesus typed our schedule, how would it look?

Another book I'm studying. I first read Calvin Miller's The Path of Celtic Prayer last summer. Studying his words now in a small group reminds me about the importance of letting God speak to us through various voices. So, I ask, which voices are guiding you closer to God? What voices are challenging the religious and behavioral addictions which often interfere with God's plan? What voices are reminding you of God's love, His truth, His invitations?

Another day is rushing by. What can we do today to be made new? What can we do today to let God's love flow through us to bring life into this world? What is stopping us?

Along the way,
Chris Maxwell

Powerful Statement: We who are redeemed have been given the Holy Spirit to withstand Satan's onslaught. (Calvin Miller, The Path of Celtic Prayer)

I keep thinking about how you told me before that school will never end if we live the way we should live.

Do you think your Magic can win it? Lakers are my prediction.

It is just so hard to stop listening to the voices we shouldn't be listening to. Almost too hard.

So many difficult questions. You like making us think don't you? And we like you making us think or else it might never happen. By the way, are you allowed to root for the Magic now that you have deserted Orlando?

If I could only figure out what God's plan for me is it would be a whole lot easier to follow. I've made a few plans hoping for the best and they turned out to be the worst. Why can't He speak more clearly to dummies like me?

Chris, I have been thinking of you & Debbie more frequently recently, so I thought I'd look you up--and am so pleased to have found your blog, and to see the Taylor Maxwell myspace page, too! I pray this finds you all thriving!

On this blog, I especially liked your question: "If Jesus typed our schedule, how would it look?"

And, now I will RSS feed you right into my NetNewsWire so that yours is one of the voices guiding me day-by-day!

Off topic.. but
Thanks for sharing your story in Augusta this afternoon. We made it home to Macon safely. I'm the mom/wife with the Asperger's 11yo son, 10 yo daughter and epileptic husband.
Johnny should be "waking up" shortly to go clean ( he's now a custodian after brain surgery) the church for this mornings service. He takes his job cleaning the church/school very seriously.
Just wanted to drop a line to let you know how refreshing it was to hear a fellow Christian share his and his family's "epilepsy journey"/testimony. I am going to purchase your book, and possibly even read aloud to Johnny. I think it would make him feel better to know another "guy" has "temporal lobe" issues too. Of course, he won't REMEMBER too long what I read to him.. but you LEARN how to live with the memory loss too. Rich/Poor, Good/Bad, Sickness/Health.. a vow before GOD - and we've been through them all for the past 21 years. ( WOW, it's been that long !!- 1987 we met, and married in 1992 )
Please share an e-mail address. I'd like to keep in touch.
Again, thanks for coming to the MCG Epilepsy Surgery Reunion .. I was touched.
